Teaching twirling is truly a family tradition for the Dee’s Dolls. Dee Ann Wilson has taught twirling for 51 years along with her mother, Deloris Carter, who started teaching twirling in Lake County in 1955. Dee Ann’s daughter, niece, granddaughter, and grandnieces have all taken lessons. Many girls in Lake County participated in the Dee’s Dolls and Show Dolls twirling groups during those years. They won many state, regional, and national awards and competed at the World’s Fair. They were also selected to appear in the movie Honkey Tonk Freeway, television show, featured in a national retail magazine, and many local performances.
